Two police officers were shot during a standoff at an apartment complex in Odessa on Wednesday, according to police.

According to Odessa Police, officers were called to the Clayton Manor Apartments at about 11:30 a.m. to serve a warrant. They said the suspect being served, later identified as Roy Daniel Garza, began shooting at the officers, and two officers were inured. They were both taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. They were listed in fair condition on Thursday morning.

Odessa Police said the suspect then barricaded himself inside the apartment and gunfire continued to be exchanged. Members of the SWAT team were called and local residences and businesses were evacuated until the standoff ended, at about 9 p.m., police said.

The injured officers were identified as Sgt. Pedro "Pete" Gonzalez, who has been with the department for more than 11 years, and Cory Wester, who has been with the department for two-and-a-half years. Odessa police said Gonzalez suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and Wester received multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and leg.

The investigation into the incident continues, and Odessa police said the Texas Rangers will be handling the investigation.
