One Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting

Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Las Cruces.  Authorities say the man shot and killed by a deputy yesterday had been wanted on assault and firearms charges.  The man reportedly ran from a hotel where deputies were looking for him and was shot during the escape attempt.  His name has not been released.  The detective who shot him is on paid administrative leave.

El Paso's mayor and city manager speak to the media to try and address some accountability problems. Both Mayor Oscar Leeser and city manager Tommy Gonzalez pledged to continue to make the city government better during their news conference yesterday. Gonzalez said the city had turned a $7.5 million deficit last year into more than $3 million in savings. The city says they're also having a firm look into the inefficiencies in the city's capital improvements.

Two More Positive Tuberculosis Tests

Two more people in El Paso test positive for tuberculosis. The El Paso Times reports there was one case each at a Horizon City elementary school and another at a halfway house in El Paso. Health officials say nearly five dozen people at the school and halfway house also screened positive for the bacteria after testing last week, but many were latent cases.
